It takes time

It takes time.

My last post was very different from what I've ever written before. I just let my mind wander to wherever it wanted to go. I wrote down whatever came to mind, no plan, no filter. Just thoughts. And reflecting on it I realised, that the past month, actually since January, I've started a journey. A journey where I am attempting to rearrange my life. I'm choosing to make changes that will have a positive impact and a lasting impression in my life. And it takes time.

Quite often when people tell us to change, they say it takes time, but they don't actually tell you that it takes TIME. Especially when you are trying to change so much in your life. When you are changing a lifestyle, not just one aspect.

As I am writing this I realise that I could probably write a blog post for each aspect of my life I am attempting to change and the progress of how it's going. I think I will do that eventually, but for now, I'll give you the overall insight I've seen so far.

It takes time.

When you want to change something, it’s very much a mental battle. No one prepares you for it. It's a process of telling yourself what you are doing is worth it, that it is beneficial, that you should keep on moving forward, keep at it. It's hard quite frankly. It's hard to convince yourself to do something when you have grown so used to doing the easier opposite action. It doesn't help when you are also trying to convince other people that what you are trying to change is worth it. That it's something you have to do to improve your personal wellbeing.

For me, that has been the hardest part. I manage to convince myself, get into some form of routine, then someone discredits it. They say it's not worth it. It's not necessary. Then I have to start the process of convincing myself all over again.

The greatest thing I've learnt from this is that though the process is long and drawn out, it lets you reflect. You can look back at the progress you are making. You can compare what your headspace was then in comparison to now. It helps you assess what works, what doesn't work. The changes that need to be made in your methods. Maybe even change what you are doing to suit you better than before. It helps you realise if the changes you are choosing to make are simply following a trend or actually for your benefit.

It takes time because it is a process.

And in a process, you have to keep going to get to the result. So, here's to the journey, to it taking more time, to more growth.
