Ink And Bone
Now, I'm not one for reviewing books, but man I'm gonna give
a commentary on how much I LOVED this one!!!!
So, Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine, aka the bestselling author
of the Morganville Vampire Series (of which I've read the majority of in my
early high school days). Well she really succeeded in my opinion with this
book. It’s not often that I get really into a book, where I start to live the
storyline as if I’m really there. I usually can envisage the whole place, but with
this book, I created a universe. There was elaboration, detail, the whole
shebang. What made it better was the dystopian feel of the whole universe where
the library ruled all. It is a world that ive longed to immerse myself into for
a long time. A world where book really ruled, where knowledge was held in high
esteem. However, the flaw was that wisdom was not valued as much, it was withheld
from the public through the restriction of what knowledge could be accessed by
normal people.
To me the story displayed current issues within the world in
the sense that there was restricted movement towards progress by the governing
body, the Library, much like now a days where countries refuse to progress
because they are so romanticised by past glories rather than a brighter future.
But I digress. The character development is just brilliant. At first you get
this image of who you believe each character is, yet as the story unfolds, as
they are hit with dire event after dire event, that perception of who you thought
they were completely changes. You realise that the persona they first portrayed
was simply a cover up. You begin to realise that the younger characters are
growing, they are beginning to become informed, you realise that some remain to
be naïve in what they believe they know.
I love the subtle hints that are provided from the beginning
of the story, of personal messages, that at first don’t make any sense, then
you begin to realise exactly how they tie into the story, they are the backbone
to what’s actually happening which many of the characters in the story are completely
unaware of. It’s the readings backstage insight to the main production that the
audience (the characters) are completely unaware of.
Would I recommend this book? Definitely. Because it’s a good
read, but also because it truly made me question how I would respond in some of
the situations the characters found themselves in. I realised how much my
identity is in Christ, how my identity in firmly rooted in him. That no matter
what, no matter what the governing body may say to me, I shall forever trust
and listen primarily to what my God tells me and not allow an organisation to
take his place on the throne of my life.
I hope everyone enjoys the last remnents of whats left of
summer. What have you been enjoying this summer
Ellah xx
