Spontaneity = Adventure
I'm the kind of
person who follows a repetitive routine. I do the same activities whenever I
have any free time. I'm not one for spontaneity. But I don’t want to live like
that.
I read, and quite a
bit (though near to nothing recently because of school). I read about all these
characters that have lives filled with so much adventure, and the key factor to
it all is spontaneity. They step out of their shell of normality, reaching out
to the unknown. this is what I want to do most of the time, but never do as that’s
not the way I was brought up and it definitely isn’t the way my mother
functions. My life has constantly been dictated by planning, planning and
planning. It was only when a friend asked me to go for a picnic at Hyde Park
that I realised how much fun spontaneity can be. Though it was planned (by her)
as a sort of birthday party, it was spontaneous in that none of us had ever
done it before. All preparations were made within 3 days on a group chat yet it
still turned out awesome. It was honestly one of the best days I've ever had! We
ate, played games, talked politics and boys, we even visited a new shop and
walked down a private road afterwards. The whole experience was new to everyone
and something we will always remember. We explored places we've never been and
talked to people who we didn’t normally interact with in the school environment.
It was lovely. And the best thing is now I can share the experience with other
people.
This day made me want
to explore more. It made me realise that it’s through going places you
typically wouldn’t, doing things out of your norm that you can sometimes find
the most joy. When you do things spontaneously with people you enjoy being
around, it’s all the more memorable and enjoyable.
I encourage you to go
out and explore, do something that you haven’t done but have heard others
talking about. Make spontaneous trips to places you’ve never been with your
friends. Be adventurous. Don’t let routine hold you down, but rather use it as
a reason, an excuse, to do something different to 'spice up' your life.
Have a great summer,
Ellah xx
