January Discoveries
So, as promised in my last post, here is what I have discovered
and fell in love with this month of January. I've got to say that most of the
'discoveries' have been new music, though are a few other things that I have
found.
Hope you like the list and check some of
them out for yourself. I’ll try and put links for each discovery :)
Music
Now, as you know, my last post was about
this group’s interpretation of the song Good Good Father. so after listening to that, I promptly
thought 'why not see what their other music is like?' and boy was I surprised,
for a new band, they sure do make some good music that is not just like your
typical worship song, but has that Indie vibe going for it.
The Girl and the Dream Catcher - Written in the Stars
A duo of Disney channel actors, and a
couple in real life. They sure make good music, which has me grooving
throughout the day. I really don’t know how to explain why I like it, but I
do.
This gut I actually discovered last year,
but a song of his popped up on my Spotify and I fell in love all over again. He
as such a rich voice and the R'n'B style really gets to me as it reminds me of
my childhood. The best thing is that his songs aren’t explicit much like a lot
of music from this genre. It’s a good listen.
New Life Worship - Soak
Ive really been enjoying the instrumental
kind of music lately and this album is just brilliant. It’s a Christian
instrumental album that moves the soul. I feel that the sounds on this album,
touch you on a deeper level than some worship songs with words. It is calming
as well as energising (if that makes sense) and the best thing about it is that
even if you’re not religious you can listen to it and just appreciate what good
music it is.
Ludovico Einaudi - Divinire album
As I said above, I’m really liking
instrumental music lately, so I thought to look up some classics. I happened to
get this one as in the trailer of the Grace of Monaco a beautiful piece is played and I wanted it. So I did my research
and found that it was called Divinire by Ludovico Einaudi (I have no idea how
to pronounce this name). I promptly went onto Spotify and found the whole album
and fell in love. It’s the first album of classical music that Ive listened to
in its entirety.
Jesus Culture - Let it Echo album
This is the anthem of my new year. The
songs are so encouraging, the sound so good and authentic and diverse. It’s a
brilliant album that everyone should be listening to.
Passion - Salvations Tide is rising
After listening to last years 'Even So
Come' album, I could help but want to see what new music Passion had to offer.
Though I prefer lasts years album, this one is still a great one, with new
songs and old, different sounds, it’s a good afternoon listen.
Walking on Cars - Speeding Cars
I happened to come along this song on a
YouTube advert before watching a video. Usually I press skip, but not that day.
This song instantly caught my attention, and I am glad it did because I then went
on to discover the next two artists that night.
This guys happened to be next to the song
by Walking on Cars, and I couldn’t help but click on the link. It was a good
decision even though I should have been focusing on school work. They have this
sweet sound which I’m really in love with at the moment, which is perfect for a
journey on the way to or from school.
Now these guys were found on the same day,
but I’m not sure how I came by them, I just did. They are a duo who like Oh Wonder
make some very beautiful music. They are like a mix of AQUILO and Kodaline, so
basically it means their music is very refreshing to listen to.
Ive always liked Fall Out Boy since my
friend introduced me to them (though I’m selective about which songs I like). For
a while, I kinda got put off them, and wasn’t really enjoying the music that
they were producing. Then I heard THIS song. It’s as if I instantly fell in
love and to be quite frank, I wouldn’t have it any other way. This song is
AMAZING!
Other
I have always been on the hunt for a Christian
YouTuber who wasn’t cringe, extreme or really relaxed about their faith. And I
found one! Katy Gregoire is a Canadian teen who blogs about her feelings on today’s
issues within society as a whole as well as the church but from a Christian
perspective. She acknowledges that the church isn’t perfect and in fact has its
faults, but she doesn’t take away its importance, rather she encourages us to
try and make it better with the backing of scripture. At this moment in my life,
this is very much needed as I feel as if I’m the only one struggling with being
a teen Christian as there aren’t any youths within the church and my mother didn’t
grow up in the same environment as me. Sometimes, people like Katy are needed
to make you aware that you’re not the only one.
One of my aims this year was to become
more organised. And in trying to do that I took on the action of downloading a calendar
onto my phone where I could write down all that I wanted to do, including to-do
lists. This calendar is brilliant, I came by it through watching a YouTube
video (which one, I can’t remember), and it is amazing! It has a to-do list, an
agenda which tells you what you want to do for the day, icons and you can
colour code it. It is a brilliant calendar, much better than what Google has to
offer and has made my life just that bit easier. I would definitely recommend
it to anyone who wants to get organised in a fun way.
