Old School Disney #DecemberWonderings
On Tuesday, my friend told me
about a pressing issue - a song was stuck in her head, and that song happened
to be from the Disney movie Tarzan (1999). As the wierdos we are, we promptly
found it during our frees and listened to it. We then proceeded to watch the
beginning of the movie.
When I got home, and for the
majority of yesterday, I thought about how many Disney shows and movies shaped
my childhood. I thought of Disney cinematic and how my heart was broken when
they took the channel down. It was when I was thinking of this that it dawned
on me that Disney has somehow lost their identity as they tried to keep up with
the movie trends. Disney used to be about family, about watching something
together that the parents and kids would enjoy. Things like The Emperor's New
Groove, Hercules and Kim Possible that were shown on old school Disney Cinematic
while the Disney Channel showed all the stupid 'new' shows. Shows like Phil of the
Future and that’s So Raven that everyone could relate to, that didn’t make the
parents seem dumb, stupid or disconnected to their children, what happened to
them? when thinking about this I realised that if I ever have children, I’m
going to make sure that they have an experience of classic Disney rather than
the new things that encourage little children to get a girlfriend/boyfriend
when their still in primary school. Though I believe if you’re in school, you shouldn’t
have time for any boyfriend!
When did we lose the meaning of
childhood?
