Annoyance #DecemberWonderings

Why is it that some people seem the need to be so naïve about pretty much everything? Why can they not put themselves in another person’s shoes before making such stupid comments, especially when it comes to anything related to culture and ethnicity? I obviously didn’t just start thinking this, there is a story behind it. Well this is how the story goes...

So just yesterday, I was at school and my first period was a free as it is on Wednesdays, this means that I don’t have registration as I usually would. I decide am going to do work in the hub (our canteen) when an acquaintance of mine comes and sits with me. We then start talking and somehow we get onto the topic of where am from and am like 'am from Zimbabwe' and she was like, 'if you had told me I wouldn’t have known.' so this is where my annoyance stemmed from.

The conversation then took a long route, but the whole issue was the fact that she didn’t understand why it is offensive to assume something of someone, such as the country in which they are from. she made the argument that sometimes you have to assume, which I disagree on, as its rude, you should ask if you don’t know or are in doubt rather than saying 'are you from this country'. Don’t state a bloody country, just ask where you from are. What infuriates me is that when I and a friend of mine pointed out that she in fact was from one country (who happened to do some horrible things to her family) she was offended just because she didn’t like what was done, not even to her, but her grandparents. I found this very hypocritical and frustrating in the least.

Why is it that people refuse to acknowledge that some of what they believe is their right is very offensive to others, and that if they know its offensive, even if they don’t understand it, they should stop? Just stop. Stop offending others.

what I found challenging was the fact that in this day and age, it is very common for everyone to make false assumptions, act on them and what does it result in? Chaos.

Shouldn’t we try to make the world a better place by not being quick to judge, act, comment but quick to listen, slow to react?

I'm sorry if this post seems rather negative, but in this series I really want to be real.
