New Wine United 2015
Well Hello to you all!! Its summertime and my country has
been graced with some nice weather which is a rare occurrence. So at this time
of year every year there are Christian camps and I went to one of them! Last year
I did a post on my New Wine experience and to be honest, this year has reaffirmed
pretty much everything I said last year and more!
So this year I was in the same venue once again but the teaching
never seizes to amaze me. The main topic that they revolved around was #deathtoselfie which I think was very
relevant once you understood the concept. They were talking about how we live
in a self-obsessed society. We are constantly told to think of ourselves and
only ourselves as if we are the centre of the universe. We have lost our sense
of community which is very dangerous as we are now forgetting that everyone is
human and goes through troubles, we instead expect everyone to have their lives
sorted out 24/7 which is wrong. They talked about how to truly live out your Christian
life to the full, you need to die to yourself then allow Jesus to work through
you. The only way that the good news can be spread is through the person of
Jesus shining through us but that’s not possible if our lives revolve around us
rather than Him.
So that was basically what the teaching revolved around last
week. But that wasn’t it, I once again went to the Rise Up! sessions which were an eye opener once again. They talked
about how every one of our actions in first world countries affect those people
who are suffering in the third world countries. Such as throwing away a plastic
bottle in a bin which in the end effects global warming once it goes through
the whole process, which in turn effects families who live in low lying islands
such as Bangladesh as the rising sea levels mean that there will be no Bangladesh
in years to come which leaves us with the issue of where these families will
now live? These sessions were run by Tearfund who are a great charity who address
issues of poverty all around the world. The venue I was in also done a
collection (of money) for Tearfund’s efforts in stopping child trafficking. If you
want to know more on the topic make sure to go to the Tearfund website (I’ll
put a link at the bottom).
Apart from my venue, many of the other venues on site were
great. They had after hours vents such as a new
year’s disco in the middle of the year, they had live gigs, talent shows. It
was great.
I know that New Wine isn’t worldwide but I do urge that you
find a camp like it, they are so worthwhile. There are some for specific ages
or somewhere the whole family can go like New Wine.
Hopefully you are all having a great summer,
Ellah x
