Year 6 Story Writing
Hiya guys!
:D
I was
browsing through my files the other day to try and sort them out when I came
across a few stories I had written a few years back. I remember at one point I wanted
to be a publisher: the one who read the book before it went on the shelves. I was
going through a phase where books were my life, I lived and breathed them, and
they were my everything.
I thought I might
as well share the stories. What’s the point of keeping it to myself? ;)
It was
written for a writing competition when I was in year 6, so it was years ago. There
are many grammatical errors that I wanted to change, but I felt I should keep
it as it is to honour my year 6 self. So here it is…
The story
I came home
from school. When I got there to enter my room, there he was, blocking my way.
Ben was blocking the way to my room.
‘How was
your day Minnie?’ he asked.
Ben is one
of those types who are so mean that no one likes him. He is not one of the
kindest of dads (my step-dad); he is one of the meanest.
‘It was
fine,’ as I always say.
‘What did
you do in school then?’
‘You know
that I had a test in all subjects last week, well I got the highest score.’
All of a
sudden his fist was there, ready to move towards me. Mum was just coming out of
her room (she had not noticed the noise).
‘Stop it you
horrible man!’
Mum was mad;
she made him get out before she hit him herself.
Now Ben has
left, life is much easier than before. We have moved house, we’re also having a
party for moving into the new house and for my birthday. My best friend Tracy,
who has been my best friend ever since we were born. Still in tears she says
farewells, even though she is going to the same school as me and only lives next
door.
‘Minnie may
I talk to you in your room?’
I leave Tracy
in the lounge to get used to the atmosphere. Mum was sitting on the bed waiting
patiently. She handed me a letter and said something about a secret or
something. I open the envelope as she leaves for the kitchen.
When I knew
my mum had left the room completely, I started to wonder what the letter said:
Dear Minnie
Happy
birthday darling.
Hope you
have a great time on this special day.
Love you
From mum.
Wait a
second, there was something there; just behind it. I read it:
I’m so sorry
to tell you darling, especially on your birthday. I thought it might be the
right time to tell you that, when you were a baby (born), your real dad just
left to go on a mission in a place even I don’t know. So when he left I left so
that’s why you had a step dad. Your real dad is going to live with us; in
addition you are going to see your dad for the first time.
Sorry, Mum.
OK this is
weird, I know I had a dad and all; but it never occurred to me who he was.
‘Bye Minnie,
have a good sleep. Remember to meet me at the bus stop OK.’
Tracy was
about to leave when I just finished reading the letter.
So there it
is. When I submitted it my teachers were a bit concerned for my well being, so actually
called me out of class. They asked me if anything was happening at home, when
in actual fact, there wasn't. I lived in a perfectly normal family home. I put
it down to my imaginative mind due to reading waayyy too much.
Hope you
guys appreciate my 10 year old self (my birthday is in June so I was 10
throughout most of year 6).
Ellah xx
