The New Year

As the year finally comes to an end, everyone reflects on how the last year has been. For 2013 it has been a roller coaster in all parts of society. With many pop culture events such as Miley Cyrus's wrecking ball, Justin Bieber scandals, One Direction fandoms and Robin Thicke's sexist No.1 song; there has also been a rise in the popularity of YouTube. As more people become aware of YouTube being a major social networking site, a new era has begun which will only grow in the next years. With more and more new YouTubers arising with great video content, the internet has become the playground of opinions, a place where we can freely express ourselves to the world. A place where everyone is welcome and is a part of the community of misfits.

There has been major changes in the way society thinks, as gay marriage was legalised in many countries/ states. It has allowed us to become more aware of others and open-minded yet there is still some prejudice. The US government shut down was a major shocker to the world, proving that even the strongest power can fall. Also, the death of Nelson Mandela left the world in tears from the loss of a great peace maker.

As we look back on the year, we all start to come up with resolutions to start the year and anticipate the new memories to be made. But we need to remember to stop and rest. To enter the year with a new, refreshed perspective on life. We need to remember that the new year is about new beginnings. When we set our targets, make them something worthwhile. Something memorable. Something meaningful. Not one of those every-year resolutions.

With the many highs and lows in 2013, now we've got to wait and see what 2014 has in store for us. :)
